Jammu & Kashmir High Court has asked for a status report on the implementation of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act in the state. The court has directed the government to file a report detailing the steps taken to ensure the act’s effective implementation. The act mandates free and compulsory education to all children aged between 6 and 14 years. The court’s order comes after a public interest litigation was filed, highlighting the inadequate implementation of the act in the state. The court has set the next hearing in the case on April 1, 2023.
