Sarpanches’ protest: Punjab and Haryana High Court orders Police to clear road, says protesters don’t have license to inconvenience public

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the police to clear the roads blocked by protesting Sarpanches in Haryana’s Karnal district. The court observed that the protesters did not have the license to inconvenience the public and obstruct highways. The court’s order came in response to a public interest litigation filed seeking the removal of the blockade. The Sarpanches have been protesting against the police lathicharge on farmers in Karnal last year. The court has directed the police to ensure that the blockade is cleared within three days and has warned of strict action against those violating its order.
